The family of a 26-year-old man lynched and set ablaze by a mob at Achiase-Amoam in the Ashanti Region is demanding justice.

The deceased, Shaban Abdul Wahab who is a driver’s mate, became a victim of the mob attack after he was suspected to be a thief by the chief of the area.

According to the relatives, the chief upon sighting the victim around his residence became suspicious and allegedly raised alarm, leading to the attack by the mob.

Brother of the deceased, Mohammed Kudus wants the law to take its course.

“The way they killed Major Mahama, an innocent man, is the same thing they did to our brother. We will not do anything against the area or the man who gave the authority that he should be beaten. We know the law, so we want the law to work.”

Two persons including the chief have since been arrested and arraigned.

They have been remanded to reappear in court on 10th July, 2019.

This lynching incident comes to add to the growing list of recent mob actions that have resulted in the death of some persons.

Although the country’s laws prohibit mob action and instant justice, it seems to be growing with the law enforcers, the police, in some cases being victims.

A few days ago, one person was arrested by the police for near-lynching of an officer at the Abossey Okai roundabout in Accra.

The near attack came about when the officer, a personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department, tried to stop the about 200 motorbike riders who were then in a funeral procession to the Awudome cemetery from blocking the road.

Sources say the duty officer was then pounced upon by the angry bikers, beaten up and sustained injuries on his head.

He has since been treated and discharged.
